Find something great to read
Our free Amazon Screen Saver starts by getting a list of
popular books from a random category at Amazon.com. After
showing these for awhile, it begins wandering through
Listmania lists, following titles to discover something
new every time it runs. See something you like? Just hit
the space bar and you'll be whisked off to Amazon to learn
more.

Just to be clear, there is no spyware or nastyware going on
here. AmazonSaver connects to Amazon to get its book lists, but
we send nothing about you or your browsing habits to anybody,
ever. Turning us off is just a matter of picking another
screen saver from the "Display" Control Panel. If you buy something
you discover with the Screen Saver, we'll get a cut. Trust us,
we're not holding our breath on that one.
It's theme-rific!
By default, AmazonSaver selects from a pretty broad selection
of categories. If your interests are more focused, you can
narrow it down by clicking on one of these registry files:
travel,
mysteries,
science fiction, or even
erotica.
Want to make your own? Just add a comma-separated list of Amazon
browse node ids as a string value
"BrowseStarts" under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Software Poetry\AmazonSaver (all
standard warnings about mucking with the registry apply).
We're excited about this stuff!
I'm a big believer in distributed applications, and get
super-excited about what can happen when the world is given
great building blocks like
Amazon Web Services.
AmazonSaver
is just a toy, but hopefully one that will inspire others
to do fantastic stuff with the incredibly rich data that Amazon
provides.
What if it doesn't work for me?
We've tested AmazonSaver pretty well, but there
may be cases where it doesn't behave properly. If you run
into problems, just drop us a note at
support@softwarepoetry.com; we'll do our best to
help out. Please remember that this is free software, provided
with no warranty or guarantees of any kind.
Today, AmazonSaver is only available for Windows machines.
Let us know if you'd like to see a Linux version; we've been
looking for a reason to refresh those X skills!
4/16/2005 - A flying update ... now
you can see a history list of recent books shown, rather than
just the last one. Thanks to
Jeff Barr at Amazon for the idea!
4/5/2005 - Is your AmazonSaver crashing?
We found a bug. Run the installer
link again and you should be golden. Sorry about that.
